Free Range is a mechanical system created from found objects collected from the streets. The artwork consists of a circulating system constructed with pipes and buckets. Iron components and springs generate the tension for a crossbow mechanism. With this creation, the artist has built a machine that automatically supplies and shoots eggs, ultimately destroying them. During a five-day exhibition at Goldsmiths, University of London, the artist managed to destroy a total of 500 eggs.
This artwork explores the relationship between humans and machines in an absurd manner. Here, the machine is not portrayed as more intelligent than humans or destined to replace them. On the contrary, the artist has created a machine that exists in a similar form to humans—equally anxious, self-contradictory, and capable of self-destruction.
