QK is a part of the "She, You, and Her" project, which aims to integrate online and offline experiences. At the end of the mobile game, players find themselves entangled with a virtual girlfriend in the game. Players are constantly harassed by Tsukiai, and even their life being kidnapped by her. In order to end this relationship, Tsukiai continuously tells the audience that they must meet "face to face." Therefore, QK becomes the place where the audience can finally break up with the virtual girlfriend.
QK is held at the Chrysler Hotel in Taipei, a long-established love hotel that mainly caters to young couples in the university area. Built in the 1990s, the interior of the Chrysler Hotel is decorated in a European style, fully preserving the vulgar charm of Taiwan's economic miracle period.
During the two-week exhibition, artists rented a room at the Chrysler Hotel and transformed it into immersive spacial experiences. Visitors to the exhibition must rent a 20 minutes slot at the counter and then enter the room alone to experience the works in an intimate way. Upon entering the exhibition room, visitors lie on a furry mattress surrounded by two robotic arms. The virtual girlfriend appears on the holographic projection screen mounted on the robotic arm, telling the audience the final story of the game.
As visitors enter the exhibition, they will receive a serial number, which they can use to unlock the hidden story of the game by entering it on their phones.
Love hotels
Love hotels in Taiwan can be traced back to the late 1970s when Taiwanese society was still relatively conservative. Couples found it difficult to express their emotions in public, and young lovers struggled to find private spaces due to the high cost of housing. Love hotels emerged as a solution, providing a cheap and private space for couples to rest.
Early love hotels were mostly small family-run hotels with simple facilities and cheap prices, catering mainly to young couples. However, with changing social attitudes and economic development, love hotels gradually evolved into themed hotels with distinctive and personalized features, such as lover themes, romantic themes, and sexy themes.
In the early 2000s, with Taiwan's economic development and more open attitudes, the number and types of love hotels increased, including higher-end love hotels with advanced equipment and facilities. Some love hotels also gradually transformed into business hotels, catering to business travelers. Love hotels are usually located in city centers or near tourist areas, making them a unique touristic destinations.
QK
QK is a term used in love hotels. The term originated from the Japanese word "kyukei," which means "taking a rest." In Taiwanese pronunciation, it sounds like QK, and the term gradually evolved into a synonym for having sexual intercourse in a love hotel.
